Champaign County Bridge Replacement

The Champaign County Highway Department, under the leadership of County Engineer Jeff Blue, undertook a significant bridge replacement project in Illinois, marking Valmont's first installation in the state. The project aimed to address safety concerns, improve infrastructure durability, and enhance traffic flow for local residents. The collaboration between the Champaign County Highway Department, Resident Engineer Ryan Mumm, Design Consultant Mark Leighton from WHKS & Co., and General Contractor Nick O'Neil of Big O Services, resulted in the successful installation of a modern bridge structure that will serve the community for many years to come.

Creekside Drive Bridge Replacement over Spring Brook

The Creekside Drive Bridge (MS 4065) over Spring Brook No. 1 in Wheaton, DuPage County, was an essential crossing that served local traffic and provided vital access to the surrounding neighborhoods. The existing structure, identified as 022-7202, had deteriorated over time and faced ongoing maintenance challenges. The center pier of the original two-span bridge had become a source of frequent issues, leading to the decision to replace the aging structure with a more efficient and durable design. The new bridge, identified as 022-7205, was designed to improve safety, reduce future maintenance costs, and enhance the flow of traffic.

The poles not only had to be custom-shaped, but strong enough to enable them to mount light fixtures, speakers, screens, and cameras.

The Palmer Avenue Bridge, a vital infrastructure component in the City of Northlake, Cook County, was in need of replacement to maintain public safety, accommodate growing traffic, and improve structural integrity. The original bridge, identified as 016-7611, was an aging structure that could no longer effectively support current traffic demands and was susceptible to deterioration. The replacement bridge, 016-7620, was designed to provide a durable and safer crossing over Addison Creek, enhancing both the transportation network and local infrastructure.

Sawmill Creek Pedestrian Bridge Replacement

In late February 2022, a key pedestrian bridge that spanned over Sawmill Creek in the Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve, DuPage County, was destroyed due to high water conditions and large slabs of ice. This bridge, serving the popular multi-use trail, was a vital connection for outdoor recreation in the area. The 25-year-old structure had long struggled with debris and ice buildup, which was exacerbated by its low elevation. These recurring issues caused significant disruptions, blocking the creek's natural flow and creating hazardous conditions. Following the destruction of the bridge, the community and the District sought a swift resolution.

More than 21,000 vehicles per day travel across the bridge and safety was the catalyst for this construction project. Built in 1963, the Indian Trail Bridge is the longest Fox River crossing in Aurora, at a length of 826 feet.

TWG worked with Civil Tech and the Village of Buffalo Grove to provide special Corten Steel Poles that would stand the test of time. Corten Steel (weathering steel) is unique product that over time creates a protective self-patina that increases the life of the pole.
